The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the scrabble game at the latest Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) event, Passfine Chinkere, has lauded the organisers of the first edition of the All-Amazon Scrabble Championship scheduled to hold between August 30 and 31, 2024.
The two-day women’s championship, which will be held in Benin City, Edo State, was organised by Words and Wits in conjunction with the Nigerian Scrabble Federation (NSF).

According to a statement from the player’s media team on Thursday, August 15, Chinkere described the championship as an opportunity to develop the game among the players.
“I call it ‘A New Chapter in the World of Scrabble.’ The first-ever All-Amazon Scrabble Championship and the prospect of an All-Amazon Scrabble Championship are incredibly exciting,” he said.
“This marks a new era for the classic word game, fusing the traditional with the digital. As the first of its kind, this event has the potential to redefine the competitive Scrabble landscape and introduce the game to a wider audience.”
Chinkere added that it will open the door for girls to combine education and sport.
“I imagine this championship will be more than just a competition; it could be a platform to foster a strong community both online and offline,” he said.
More than 60 players are expected to take part in the competition before the championship.
