Alleged Shepherd killing farmers, injuring several people in the attack of Benue Village

A new wave of violence hit the state of Benue on Saturday when the alleged armed shepherd attacked Tse Akor Gbatse Village in the Nyiev Council Ward in the Guma Regional Government, killing one farmer and injured several other people.

Local sources confirm that the attackers hit in the afternoon, leaving traces of bloodshed and panic. The deceased was identified as Tachia Akor, a farmer in the community. His wife, Mrs. Tsetim chords, along with other victims, suffered various levels of injury and currently receive medical treatment at Adi Hospital in the nearest City of Daudu.

The attack also caused mass transfer, with many villagers to flee for safety, leaving homes and agricultural land quiet. Members of the community said the attack occurred only a few days after the local population increased the alarm on the possibility of invasion.

According to a resident who spoke under anonymity, the attackers had been seen camping in Rukubi, the regional government of the neighboring country of Nasarawa, before crossing to Benue to launch offensive.

“The signs were there, and people were worried. We heard they gathered in Rukubi, and then they attacked. Tachia was killed, and his wife and others were seriously injured,” said the source.

Confirming the incident, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, stated: “Yes, we were told. Our people have used it. Immediately we got information, personnel were mobilized, and they had investigated this problem. Normally they have also returned to the area,” he said.

This attack added a list of violent incidents connected to the armed shepherd in Benue, a state that remains a flame point in the wider Nigeria struggle over land, security, and tension of shepherd farmers.
