Alleged Shepherd killing police officers, 8 others in Benue

Armed people suspected of being a shepherd on Tuesday killed nine people, including a police officer, in several areas of the regional government area in the state of Benue.

The affected communities – Okwutanobe, Okpokpolo, Olegagbani, and Ikpele – located near the border with the state of Kogi were attacked by the Shepherd from last Friday to Tuesday.

The Chairman of Agatu Lga, Melvin Ekeh, confirmed the attack to reporters on Wednesday.

He said: “At least four people were killed in Okwitanobe, Okpokpolo, and Olegugbani while five people, including a police officer, were killed at Ikpele today (Wednesday).”

“These attacks, which are thought to be retaliation, are very unfortunate.”
