Amb. Bianca reiterates Nigeria’s commitment to democracy in Africa

Abuja (basic reporter) The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, the white ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu reiterated the country’s commitment to root democracy in Africa.

It did so when the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, the Hon. Nancy Gladys Tembo, made her a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu said that the promotion of democracy was one of the pillars of the foreign policy approach of President Bola Ahmed administration led by Tinubu in Code of the “4DS” which includes the key elements of democracy, development, demography and diaspora.

He promised the support of Nigeria al Malawi in the next general elections of the country in September this year.

The minister who was informed of the defined plans of Malawi to open his embassy in Abuja this year, said that it was a welcome development that stressed that he would strengthen bilateral relationships between the two countries.

It was about that the two memorandums of understanding (Mou) signed among both countries in 2012 had not been activated, but expressed the optimism that the Embassy of the country of Eastern Africa in Abuja would have improved their bilateral ties.

“We have two Mou who must be reactivated. In 2012 they were signed after President Goodluck Jonathan visited Malawi. So we can’t wait to open the embassy.

“Nigeria gained independence in 1960 and Malawi followed in 1964. It is surprising that Nigeria and Malawi have not been able to concretize our excellent bilateral relationship. I think your opening of a diplomatic mission residing here will announce a new era in our country to the country’s commitments,” he said.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu also urged Malawi to exploit the technical body of the AIDS of Nigeria and the bridge the gap caused by the lack of qualified teachers in its basic educational system and any other areas that the country could require manpower.

Previously, the Malawi Foreign Affairs Minister told Odumegwu-Ojukwu that he had taken advantage of the 32nd AFREXIMBANK 2025 annual meeting in Abuja to visit it and build closer relations with the Nigerian authorities.

Apart from, by announcing the plans of his country to open his embassy in Abuja, Tembo noticed that Malawi was determined to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria.

The Minister on Visit said: “The meeting of Afreximbank was an opportunity for people to meet. My country is looking forward to bilateral cooperation with Nigeria. Yes, we feel comfortable with the Nigerians who make business in Malawi. We want to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Nigeria. Afreximbank helped us to awaken our relationship.”

Tembo, who praised Nigerian businessmen in Malawi, underlined that adequate trade was underway between Nigeria and Malawi, although not reported.

Therefore, he invited Nigerian investors to propose in the rich mineral deposit of the country.

“Over the years, we have only relying on agriculture, but we realized that we have enormous equipment of minerals. Therefore, we invite investors to mining dial; the Nigerians included. We recently established the mining regulation agency,” said Malawi Minister.
