The angry masses have killed one person and injured another person for allegedly stealing a dog in the Lushi community, near Bauchi State.
Spokesman for the State Police Command, Ahmed Deputy, confirmed the incident to reporters on Thursday at Bauchi.
The representative said the incident occurred in a remote area behind Lushi on Wednesday.
He registered the victims as Dokagk Danladi and one Peter.
The representative said: “The two men were attacked by several young men in the area, who accused them of stealing a dog.
“Danladi suffered severe machete wounds on the head and was rushed to the Tafawa Balewa Abubakar University Education Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
“Unfortunately Peter was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.”

According to him, the Police Commissioner, Sani-omolori Aliyu, described the action as “savage” and direct insults to the state justice system.
“He ordered a direct and comprehensive investigation to identify and arrest all those involved in the attack.
“The order will not tolerate all forms of mass justice.
“There are no citizens who have legal rights to take the law into their own hands.
“The suspect allegedly must be handed over to the police or the right authorities for investigation and prosecution,” the spokesman added.
