The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Edo said that on Wednesday it had revealed a planned protest in all states to disrupt the government of the Governor of Monday Okpebholo.
The Chairperson of the APC in the state, Jarrett Tenebe, in a statement in the city of Benin accused that the protest was regulated by members of the Democratic Party (PDP) of the people in the state.
He said: “We have observed the wrong pattern of information and falsehood that leads to this planned protest.
“Their real goal is to create tension, sow disputes, and damage the progress made under the Governor of Monday Okpebholo.”
The Chairperson of the APC, who reiterated the commitment of the Governor of Okpebholo to the constitutional rights of citizens to the Peace Council, warned that every effort to disturb the country’s peace and stability would not be tolerated.
He said that law enforcement agencies had been included in alert to prevent legal details and order.
“We will not allow individuals or groups to thwart the progress of the state of Edo,” Tenebe said.
He urged Edo people to be vigilant and avoid being used as a pawn in political motivated protests.
In his reaction, the Secretary of the PDP publicity in the state, Chris Nehikhare, challenged APC to distinguish himself from the government.
Nehikhare said APC did not have the authority to issue security warnings, unless the government had officially transferred its security responsibility to the party.
“However, we were not surprised by this development, because Edo State is currently surrounded.
“The government does not provide instructions or indications that it can overcome the unsafe situation he has worn in the Edo country.
“Unfortunately, in Edo, we have a butterfly case that considers himself as a bird,” said Nehikhare.
