The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that the increasing wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party reflects the growing confidence of Nigerians in the APC and the government of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Lagos State APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, described the PDP as a “fractured and declining structure,” arguing that the defections signaled a loss of confidence in the leadership and ideology of the opposition party.
Oladejo rejected PDP claims that the defections posed no threat to their survival, and said the statements revealed “a chronic state of denial, delusion and self-deception.”
“What is happening to the PDP now is not just political migration,” said Oladejo. “This is the inevitable result of years of internal deception, lack of ideology, and repeated betrayals among its leaders.”
He added that many former PDP members had moved to the APC due to the ruling party’s clearer direction and increasing public confidence in Tinubu’s New Hope Agenda.

“The few remaining members of the PDP,” Oladejo said, “are probably undertakers, who stayed behind only to perform last rites and bury the remains of a once dominant but now lifeless political body.”
He further argued that the PDP’s decline began after the party lost power in 2015, following what he described as “years of economic mismanagement and policy failure.”
Oladejo stated that the mass defection to the APC represented more than just political gain, and called it “a validation of the people-focused APC government and the collective resolve of the Nigerian people to align themselves with progress.”
He concluded that the opposition party was “on the verge of political extinction,” both in Nigeria and across the continent, if it failed to undertake genuine reform.
