APC, PDP clash over #EndBadGovernance protests in Zamfara

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring attacks on its members by protesters in the state.

The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Malam Yusuf Idris, made the allegations at a press conference on Friday in Gusau.

He alleged that the PDP leadership in the state had used the protest to attack the residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

He added that PDP thugs also attacked Senator Sahabi Ya’u’s residence in his hometown of Kaura Namoda and destroyed valuables, including a Toyota Hilux van.

Idris said, β€œWe had earlier predicted the possibility of hijacking of the protest by hoodlums and other criminals in the state.

β€œWe appreciate the proactive action of the security forces in the state for their swift intervention.

β€œWe urge them to do more and immediately arrest the perpetrators who infiltrated the peaceful protests.

β€œAPC Zamfara branch is disturbed by the national dimension of the protests which should be peaceful.

β€œWe observed many PDP thugs strategically placed to attack and injure figures and damage APC properties.”

He urged Governor Dauda Lawal to summon PDP members to maintain peace in the state.

Responding, the Acting Chairman of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga, described the allegation as unfortunate.

Lugga, who is the governor’s Chief of Staff, wondered why the APC always makes baseless allegations to attack the current administration.

He said: β€œIt is very unfortunate, very sad for the APC leadership in the state to link the nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance to politics.

β€œI wonder why APC leaders in Zamfara always politicize issues related to the development of the state and Nigeria.

“You know, we don’t want to interfere in the APC issue. We are now taking care of governance. We are focused on the development of our beloved country.”
