Army arrests 7 suspected bandits in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade have arrested seven suspected bandits and seized a number of weapons in Taraba State.

Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, in a statement on Saturday in Jalingo, said a suspected bandit, Yusuf Musa, was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.

He added that 118 cows were successfully secured and returned by troops to their rightful owners.

The spokesman said troops acting on credible intelligence about suspected bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong village, Karim Lamido local government area, engaged the bandits in a gunfight and forced them to flee in disarray on August 7.

β€œOn August 6, 2024, troops received credible information about suspected bandits heading to Mashingi Village market in Karim Lamido Local Government Area to buy foodstuffs.

β€œThe troops strategically prepared and successfully arrested 4 suspected bandits identified as Yusuf Hassan, Mohammed Mamman, Haruna Iliya and Hammadu Shaibu. Items recovered from them include 1 motorcycle, 4 mobile phones and Fifty Seven Thousand Naira (N57,000) in cash.

”In a related development, On 9th August 2024, following information from a credible source about suspects collecting and preparing a large quantity of machetes suspected to be distributed to hoodlums to carry out criminal activities with plans to cause unrest in the state, troops were swiftly mobilized to Magami general area of ​​Jalingo Local Government Area where two suspects identified as Umar Zubairu and Issah Abdullahi were arrested with 436 machetes.

“Other items that were successfully secured were four filling machines, one mobile phone unit, and a number of other production equipment,” said Oni.
