Arteta Disappointed With Arsenal Draw Against Tottenham

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta says his team could have beaten Tottenham in their 2-2 Premier League derby draw on Sunday, September 24 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners took the lead from a Cristian Romero own goal in the 26th minute as he deflected a shot from Bukayo Saka into his own net.

Heung-Min Son equalised for the visitors 16 minutes later after receiving a pass from James Maddison.

Saka converted a penalty kick after Romero was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box by VAR in the second half.

Once again Son pulled Spurs level this time with a right footed finish.

Speaking to arsenal.com after the game, Arteta stressed that the Gunners had dominance and control of the game and they should have had all three points.

“Well especially when you go up twice, and the moments and the chances that we didn’t make especially in the first half,” Arteta said.

“We wanted more but you have to make the most out of it and we didn’t. The moments where we had dominance and control, we conceded the goals and that was a big, big blow.

“Playing in front of this crowd in a derby doesn’t get much better than that, and I think the players were so excited but sometimes you can be too hyped because then we lacked some composure on the ball to get more control, but we have to take the draw, there is nothing else we can do.”

Arsenal are in fifth place on the Premier League table with 14 points from six games in the division.

Next up for the Gunners is an EFL third round match against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday, September 27.

The Gunners have won the Premier League on a total of 13 occasions.
