Avocats Sans Frontieris Partners Nuj on the freedom of the press in Nigeria


Avocats Sans Frontieris, ASF, have announced their intention to collaborate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nuj, in improving digital rights in Nigeria.

This was made known when a delegation led by the member of the Board of Directors, Ivan Pandoff, visited the national secretariat on Monday.

According to Ivan Panoff, the E-Driti project would establish mechanisms that guarantee independent and fair access to justice, protecting the fundamental human rights of journalists in Nigeria, as well as legal assistance and assistance to vulnerable people, such as victims of human rights violations, in national and international jurisdictions.

While underlined the importance of the current national conference, he underlined the need to develop skills through training and collaboration with local partners.

He mentioned the advantage at the International Institute of Journalism, IIJ, on digital rights and on data security.

He said: “It is important for the citizen with your help or assistance to know how to protect their electronic rights and the dangers and the advantages of using digital tools.

“I learned that you have a school here and I would like to hear you speak and see how we can associate with the school for the near future because the guidelines of the project are guaranteeing sustainability.”

Ivan Panff advised journalists to control their sources during the use of artificial intelligence to generate their data.

He said: “In other words, the IA is an excellent tool for us, but journalism ethics is necessary”.

Even speaking, the director of the town, Avocats San Frontieri, Mrs. Angela Uzoma revealed the continuous collaboration with Nuj with a member of the project focused on press freedom, therefore the concept of digital rights for the press.

He assured the organization that Nuj would be at the forefront of creating greater visibility on the project while asking the ASF to involve the IIJ in his partnership for a greater development of skills for journalists and urged them to guarantee sustainability

“Nuj is the mother of all practicing journalists in Nigeria with 36 state tips. Our work is very simple and I want to make sure Nuj will continue to work with you.
