Badagry Divisional Football Association (BDFA) celebrates a royal icon: 48 years on the throne of Badagry’s Kran

The Badagry Divisional Football Association (BDFA) is combined with the entire reign of Badagry and supporters from all over the world to celebrate a monumental figure in Nigerian history and in the traditional-Oba leadership Claudio Dosa Akran, Aholu Jiwa II of Jegba, the Akran of Badagry, while Marks 48 Glorius years.

A true statesman and revered monarch, Oba Akran is not only a pillar of cultural heritage, but a distinct political figure whose influence has transcended the boundaries, reaching neighboring countries of West Africa such as the Republic of Benin, and even lengthening the Aflao-LomΓ© border in Ghana.

Born in 1899 in the respected Kopon family, Oba Akran was destined for leadership. His academic journey brought him through St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, and subsequently, the prestigious King’s College, Lagos. His first career saw him join the Post and Telegraph department in 1926, where he served diligently until 1947.

His journey into leadership began seriously after his father’s disappearance. In 1950, he was appointed to the head of the neighborhoods of Jegba and climbed the throne such as Aholu Jiwa II, Badagry’s Akran.

In addition to tradition, Oba Akran has left its mark in politics. He represented Badagry in the Parliament of the Western Region in 1951 as part of the action group and held regional ministerial positions, including the Minister of the Local Government and Economic Planning (1952) and subsequently Minister of Finance (1962-1966).

A development sample, Oba Akran’s legacy includes the foundation of the Badagry Grammar School in 1955 – the first secondary school in the region – and the facilitation of the main infrastructure projects including telecommunications, electrification and road development.

As a supporter of the development of youth and sport, the BDFA is proud to honor a monarch that laid the foundations for growth, unity and empowerment through governance and tradition.
