Bandits kidnap 10 people in Zamfara community

Bandits on Wednesday kidnapped 10 people in Moriki community, Zurmi local government area of ​​Zamfara State.

A community member confirmed the incident to BBC Hausa Service on Thursday.

He said: “The bandits claimed their cows were killed by the commander in the community. They attacked the community and went house to house to pick up our people. They gave us a deadline of today to pay a ransom of N50 million.

“Recently, they collected N20 million from the community members to allow locals to access their farmlands. The community is not safe at all.”

State police spokesman Yazid Abubakar also confirmed the incident.

He said the state police commissioner had ordered officers to rescue the victim without any injuries.

Zamfara and other states in Nigeria’s North-West region have been besieged by bandits since 2019 with hundreds of people killed and thousands more, including schoolchildren, kidnapped during the period.
