Barau FC captain, Usman Maidubji, has assured fans of the club that the behind closed doors match against Katsina United is in the interest of security, peace and development of football in Kano State.

Maidubji, in a post on his official Facebook page, apologized to the teeming Barau FC fans, assuring that the initiative is geared towards the collective development of football in the State.

According to him, “on behalf of our club Barau FC, we apologize and sympathize with you for the decision that our Week 32 match against Katsina United will take place without spectators.

“But this step was taken for the development of security, peace and football development in our Kano state. Everything we do is for peace, unity and building a better future for football in our Kano state.”

Recall that the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Davidson Owumi, in a letter addressed to the General Manager of Barau FC, had approved the match to be played behind closed doors.

Owumi noted that “this has become necessary based on the previous conduct of both Kano and Katsina fans. We implore you to implement and put in place all logistics necessary for a successful behind closed doors match.”

Barau FC will host visiting Katsina United on matchday 32 on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
