Bayelsa Senator Seriake Dickson leaves PDP and moves to NDC – THISAGE

In a major political development, Senator Seriake Dickson, the lawmaker representing Bayelsa West in the Nigerian Senate, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dickson, former governor of Bayelsa State, made the announcement while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

He described himself as “a man of conviction”, stressing that the PDP is currently in an intensive care unit (ICU)-like state and that Nigeria cannot operate as a one-party state.

The senator, who currently sits on the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, said his defection marks a significant political change in Bayelsa State.

His move follows the recent defection of Governor Douye Diri from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has destabilized opposition structures and altered the political dynamics of the state.

Political analysts believe Dickson’s exit from the PDP could reshape alliances in Bayelsa West and influence the evolving political landscape ahead of future elections.

The NDC is one of two political parties recently registered and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) earlier this year.

The party aims to establish a stronger presence in Nigeria’s competitive political environment.
