B’Haram terrorists blow up Damaturu-Maiduguri electricity transmission line three weeks after restoration

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday, blew up a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) transmission line along the Damaturu-Maiduguri corridor.

The attack comes three weeks after the power tower was restored following previous vandalism on the same line, making it the third attack on a power tower in the area this year.

A statement issued by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the latest act of vandalism.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby declares that two of its towers, T193 and T194, along the 330kV Damaturu-Maiduguri Single Circuit Transmission Line have again been destroyed by vandals,” Mbah said.

While the statement did not attribute the vandalism to any group, security analyst and counterinsurgency expert Makama Zagazola, in a post on X, said Bolo Haram rebels were behind the blasts at the facility.

In her post, Zagazola wrote:

“Boko Haram Destroys Damaturu-Maiduguri Transmission Line Three Weeks After Repair

“In the early hours of Sunday, suspected Boko Haram terrorists once again destroyed the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line, just three weeks after the line was restored by TCN

“According to reports, the attackers used an improvised explosive device (IED) to blow up the facility at around 2am, plunging Maiduguri and surrounding areas into darkness. This marks a repeat of the insurgents’ targeting of critical infrastructure.”
