Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed senior police officers to ensure the protection of participants in the #EndBadGovernance protests set for August 1-10, 2024.
The directive was issued in a letter dated July 29, 2024, and signed by his Chief of Staff, CP Johnson Adenola. The order followed a request by human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), who asked for police protection for the hunger-striking protesters.
Adegboruwa formally requested police protection in a letter to the IG on July 28, 2024. The letter confirmed that the IG had instructed senior officers to respond to the lawyer’s request.
The letter also announced that the IG had scheduled a meeting with Adegboruwa at the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss the request in more detail.
