The Navy turns over suspected impersonator in Cross River

The Nigerian Navy has handed over two suspected military impersonators to the police in Cross River State.

This was revealed by the Spokesperson for the Nigerian Naval Shipyard Victory, Lt.-Cdr Suleiman Bala, in a statement on Monday in Calabar.

Bala said the suspects were arrested on March 10 while wearing military camouflage and having fake military identity cards.

According to him, initial investigations revealed that one of the suspects was parading as a naval lieutenant, and the other as a midshipman.

“They claimed to have served on the Nigerian Navy Ship SAGBAMA. After investigation, we found additional items related to the military such as a jungle hat and a pair of boots,” he said.

The spokesman said that when questioned, the suspects admitted that the camouflage vest, jungle hat and boots were purchased and the identity cards were made by them.

“Today we submitted it for investigation and possible prosecution, this action is in accordance with existing procedures,” he added.
