British Council, FG has revealed the week of the 2025 creative economy in six cities

The British Council, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy (FMACTCE), launched the 2025 edition of the Creative Economy Week week, a multi-city celebration designed to highlight innovation, skills and collaboration in the creative sector.

“Building futures through creativity”, the program was officially presented on Thursday 11 September in Abuja and will come across five Nigerian cities – Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu – before concluding with a large showcase in London on 11 October.

Now in its second edition after a pilot held in 2023, the initiative became one of the Punta cultural economy programs of the British Council in Africa, inspiring similar editions in Ghana, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

This year’s event is based on a strengthened collaboration between the British Council and the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, formalized through a understanding memorandum signed at the beginning of 2025.

The program presents policy dialogues, networking and masterclass sessions in films, TV, music, photography, fashion and entrepreneurship. Other salient points include artisan seminars in the creation of Batik, leather and fiberglass sculpture; Creative pop-up markets; It is important conferences of Lagos to women in cinema, creative technology, legal paintings, investments and the future of the creative economy of Nigeria.

Speaking of the initiative, the National Director of the British Council for Nigeria and the Cluster Lead, Donna McGowan, said that the creative industry remains central to the Empowerment of young people and economic inclusion.

“For the British Council, the occupability of young people and entrepreneurship are fundamental for achieving sustainable and inclusive growth and the creative economy plays a vital role in making this possible”, he said.

The Permanent Secretary of Fmactce, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, also underlined the global relevance of Nigeria in creativity.

“The creative economy of Nigeria is one of the most dynamic in the world. Working with the British Council, we are building paths to thrive our talent, not only within Nigeria but on a global scale,” he said.

Creative Economy Week Nigeria 2025 will last until 21 September in Nigeria, culminating in London on 11 October with a showcase that highlights the voices of the diaspora, international collaborations and the opportunities for global creative exchange.
