Former President Muhammadu Buhari, said on Wednesday he moved away from the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of the West African countries (Ecowas) which was held in Lagos due to medical examinations in the UK.
In a letter addressed to the President of Bola Tinubu, the former president congratulated the Regional Block on the 50th anniversary and expressed regret for his inability to attend historical celebrations.
He wrote: “Unfortunately, as you know, I am currently in England experiencing a routine medical examination and therefore, cannot attend this historic event.”

Buhari has praised Ecowas’s achievements over the past five decades and recognizes regional endurance in facing scary challenges.
“I congratulate His Majesty and the Head of State and other governments for the achievement of this golden yobel by Ecowas,” he said.
Buhari also paid homage to the former Nigerian head, General Jacobu Gowon (RETD), one -the only father of the founder of Ecowas who was still alive and praised his important role in the creation of a regional block in 1975.
