CAF Women’s Champions League: Edo Queens claim second win by beating AS GNN 5-0

Edo Queens secured their second win in the WAFU CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B qualifiers with a resounding 5-0 victory over Niger’s AS GNN.

This dominant performance follows their previous triumph in the tournament, reinforcing their position as strong contenders.

The match, played in Abidjan, saw Emem Essien open the scoring in the 35th minute, with Suliat Abideen doubling the lead just before the break with a penalty. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Edo Queens.

In the second half, Edo Queens continued their dominance and added three more goals, including a free-kick from Blessing Llveda and goals from Esther Moses and Joy Jerry. The match ended in a resounding 5-0 victory for the Nigerian side.

Nigeria’s representatives lead Group B with 3 points and 5 goals ahead. Benin’s girls will face Hassaca Ladies in the second round, on Wednesday 14 August, at the same stadium.

With this win, Edo Queens now look ahead to a crucial match against Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana, which is likely to be a tougher test as they aim to secure their place in the next stage of the competition.
