Campos Football Club of Owerri B team started their Federation Cup season on a winning note with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Captain Marvel FC at the Oisa Stadium, Ugoala in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
The match, played in a tense atmosphere, saw Campos take the lead in the 9th minute with Ikey Mmesioma, who finished calmly to give his team the lead.
Campos doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Okoro Progress scored on a quick counterattack shortly after the restart, giving his team a comfortable lead.
Captain Marvel FC pulled back in the 86th minute with Mmesioma Okereke converting the penalty for a tense finish, but Campos FC held firm to secure victory.
In the second match played at the same venue, Kun kalifa B team recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Evermore FC.
The competition matches will continue at the Township Stadium, Owerri, as Markam will take on C&C Academy in their first match by 1pm, while Umuakuma will take on Harks FC for progression into the prestigious tournament by 3pm.
Meanwhile, the opening match was broadcast live to a global audience by Silver News Communication, as part of its commitment to promoting grassroots football and supporting the growth of the sport in Imo State and Nigeria at large.
