Lagos was hit by controversy after the development area of the Local Council of Bariga (LCDA) decided to change the name “Stop Bus Charly Boy” which is famous for respecting Afrobeats artist, Olamide Adedeji, better known as the stage name Olamide Baddo.
This action has been highly criticized by veterans and advocates for Human Rights Charles Oputa, better known as the stage name Charly Boy or the Fada Area, who calls it a calculated effort to remove activism for decades “.
David Collade, the chairman who came out of the LCDA Bariga, announced the replacement of the name of the bus stop, which according to him was an effort to recognize those who made Bariga proud and increase Nigerian reputation internationally.
“Ajidagan Street will now be called Olamide Adedeji Badoo Street. That means Charly Boy’s bus stop will now be changed to Baddo bus stop, there are no more Charly boys,” David said.
Other important improvements were also made as a result of this exercise, such as Ilojo Crescent to Bukayo Saka Street, Bariga Road to Ball Ahmed Tinubu Way, and Ilaje Road to King Sunny Ade Road.
Charly Boy, however, did not take long to voice his intense disapproval. He said that changing the name was not only symbolic in the statement shared in the X grip (previously Twitter).
” Dem says Dey Don Chang is the name of Charly Boy’s bus stop.
Hmmm. Very interesting. But let me remind you of something simple:

” You can change the name of the place … but you cannot change the name of the inheritance.
You can change the signboard … but you cannot erase the spirit.
And you certainly can’t silence the sound that shook your table for decades!
” This is not just about the bus stop. It’s about fear. Likewise, a boy who refused to bow. Afraid of a man who challenged the oppressors. Afraid of a man who does not ask for a system to be accepted.
” So what do people do shy? They changed their names like E going to erase their shame. Bariga, GBAGADA, all Lago knows the truth. The name of Charly Boy’s bus was not given by politicians. That was named by the people fought for the same person, walking with, and empowered.
” They can change the signboard. They may pretend to not remember. But let me remind them the area of Fada no Dey Finish. He doesn’t need to sing sweet songs to be accepted. He does not need to use agbada to ask for a degree.
” He’s a movement. He is an institution. He’s warning. So for all the small thoughts and shy hearts. You can change its name … but you will never kill heritage.
” This name is Charly Boy carved in the history of Nigeria,
Written bravely on the paths of barga, engraved into the minds of people who still dare to question authority. Inheritance is not on the nameplate. In your heart you change, the sounds you build, and the fear you plant in a corrupt soul.
” So please change the name. But remember you can’t change the truth. You can’t delete fire. Area Fada no Dey Finish. ” Charly Boy wrote on his official X page.
