Chukwueze attributes AC Milan’s recovery to coach’s motivational words

AC Milan striker Samuel Chukwueze has spoken about the driving force behind his outstanding performances during the club’s pre-season campaign.

The Nigerian international has been one of the Rossoneri’s key players, impressing fans and critics alike in games against top-flight sides such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Chukwueze, who joined AC Milan from Spanish club Villarreal last summer, struggled to make an impact in his debut season at the San Siro.

However, this pre-season has seen a marked improvement, with the 25-year-old not only creating numerous goalscoring opportunities for his teammates, but also scoring himself in a game against Real Madrid.

The striker attributes his resurgence to a conversation with new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca.

Speaking to the Milan Post, Chukwueze revealed the simple yet powerful message that sparked his resurgence.

“He only said one thing to me: ‘Samuel, I don’t want to see the Chukwueze from last year. I want the one from Villarreal,'” Chukwueze said.

“And I said, ‘OK, no problem.’ It’s like I’ve been reborn; I’m a new player.”

Chukwueze has so far recorded one goal and two assists in four pre-season games, giving Milan fans an insight into the form that made him a standout player in La Liga.

With the new season approaching, the winger looks set to establish himself as a key player for the Rossoneri.
