Chukwueze credits Paulo Fonseca for his resurgence in pre-season at AC Milan

Super Eagles striker Samuel Chukwueze has attributed his resurgence at AC Milan to a pivotal discussion with new coach Paulo Fonseca.

Chukwueze, who joined Milan from Villarreal last summer after six years in Spain, had struggled to find consistency during his time with the Rossoneri.

There were flashes of brilliance evident, but he failed to produce consistent, impactful performances, especially under former coach Stefano Pioli.

However, since Fonseca’s arrival, Chukwueze has been one of the standout performers of pre-season. The 25-year-old winger has registered one goal and two assists in four games, showing the form that made him a star at Villarreal.

In a recent interview with La Gazzetta, as reported by Milan Post, Chukwueze revealed that a direct but impactful conversation with Fonseca has been key to his resurgence.

“He only said one thing to me: ‘Samuel, I don’t want to see the Chukwueze from last year. I want the one from Villarreal.’ And I said: ‘Okay, no problem.’ It’s like I’ve been reborn, I’m a new player,” Chukwueze shared.

With the Serie A season set to kick off on August 17 against Torino, Chukwueze looks primed for a strong campaign, eager to make a significant impact for AC Milan.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if this pre-season form can carry over into competitive matches, which could mark a turning point in Chukwueze’s career at the club.
