The Court of Justice of the Community, Ecowas, organized a celebration of retirement in honor of four estimated staff members – Dr. Atanase Atannon, dr. William Deiyan Towah, Mr. Félicien Hounkanrin and Iliyas Jonah – in recognition of their extraordinary years of considerable service, professionalism and commitment for the institution.
In his speech, honorable President of the Court, Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, praised retirees for their unwavering commitment, hard work and exemplary professionalism.
“We cannot fail to be able to tell you gentlemen, here and now, that the Court owes you a profound debt of gratitude,” observed the president. “Each of you leaves an indelible mark on this institution through professional results and the impact on your colleagues.”
Previously in his welcome observations, Dr. Yaouza Ouro-Sam, head of the court, reflected on the precious contributions of pensioners to the operational success of the Court. He praised their dedication, the passion for excellence and hard work that have left a lasting impact “in court and on staff members.
A staff representative, Ghislain Agbozo, also held a heartfelt tribute on behalf of staff members.
He shared some salient points that reflected the dedicated service and the warm friendship of pensioners. “You have dedicated most of your professional life to serving the community,” he observed. “It is with great pleasure and a profound respect that we pay homage to each of you today, recognizing the precious contributions you have made” and celebrating the values you have exemplified during your service.

Dr. William Deiyan Towah, who spoke on behalf of pensioners, expressed their gratitude for the privilege of serving the institution and the wider community.
“My colleagues and I are about to retire, having served our community with dedication and commitment, guided by the values we care about.” He also expressed the hope that the institution would continue to support the ideals for which it was founded.
The ceremony ended with a thanksgiving vote delivered by the honorable vice -president Sengu Mohamed Koroma, who extended sincere appreciation to all participants and the organizing team. “For retirees, while I undertake this new chapter, we wish you all the best in your retirement: a time full of joy, relaxation and search for new adventures,” he said.
The event, held at the Abbuja Continental Hotel, was full of moments of reflection, laughter and celebrations. The pensioners were honored with plaques and appreciation certificates, while colleagues shared felt memories and best wishes.
The members of the court, staff and families of retirees gathered to celebrate the careers and legacy of these four exceptional people. Their contributions will remain incorporated into the history of the court.
