Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Thursday, ordered the provisional seizure of $2.04 million and seven properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The judge gave the order while ruling on an application filed by the Commission for the Eradication of Economic and Financial Crimes (KPK).
The commission had previously indicted the former CBN governor for alleged fraudulent activities during his tenure.
The properties are located in Delta and Ikoyi areas of Lagos.

Namely β two wholly separate duplexes of identical structure, situated and located at No. 17b Hakeem Odumosu Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos; a vacant/undeveloped plot of land, measuring 1919,592 sqm with Survey Plan No. DS/LS/340, situated at Oyinkan Abayomi Street (formerly Queens Street), Ikoyi, Lagos.
Others are a bungalow located at No. 65a Oyinkan Abayomi Drive (Formerly Queens Drive), Ikoyi, Lagos, a four-bedroom duplex located at 12a Probyn Road, Ikoyi, an industrial complex under construction on 22 plots of land in Agbor, Delta State; eight undetached apartments on 2457.60 square meters of land at No. 8a Adekunle Lawal Road, Ikoyi, and a full duplex with all amenities on 2217.87 square meters of land at 2a Bank Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
EFCC legal counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, who filed the motion, said the money and other items in question were strongly suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.
He added that the ex-parte motion was supported by an affidavit submitted by an investigator attached to the EFCC office in Lagos, Idi Musa.
After hearing Oyedepo’s arguments, the judge granted a temporary seizure of the property.
He also ordered the EFCC to publish the order in a national newspaper so that anyone interested in the property can appear in court and show cause within 14 days why the property should not be permanently surrendered to the Federal Government.
Justice Aluko adjourned the further hearing of the matter until September 5.
