Cross River Assembly approves 2024 supplementary budget of N437.8 billion

The Cross River State House of Assembly on Friday passed the 2024 supplementary budget of N437.876 billion.

In the budget, an amount of N151.684 billion was allocated for personnel costs, N283.333 billion for capital expenditure, and N2.857 billion was approved for official expenditure.

Governor Bassey Otu presented the Supplementary Budget Bill to the Assembly on July 18.

In his remarks during the debate on the bill, the Chairman of the House Finance and Budget Allocation Committee, Mr. Cyril Omini, said that the committee had thoroughly studied the bill before reporting to the House.

He said the budget would enable the governor to run the government effectively and implement more development projects in the state.

Omini, who represents the Yakurr 1 constituency, said the bill was referred to the committee after passing the first and second readings.

He said: β€œAs a committee, we comply with Regulations 64 and 66 in carrying out our duties.”

Other lawmakers who spoke during the debate praised the committee for its comprehensive action and described the supplementary budget as a step in the right direction.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Assembly, Mr. Elvert Ayambem, said that the governor remains careful in using public funds.

He pointed out that every sector in the state has received government attention.
