Cross River records two more Mpox cases

The Cross River state government has confirmed two new cases of Mpox in the Calabar Municipality local government area of ​​the state.

The state epidemiologist, Mrs Inyang Ekpenyong, confirmed the case in a statement on Saturday in Calabar.

The state had earlier reported a case of Mpox in Okoshe, Obudu LGA.

Ekpenyong said the case management team had been informed of the urgent evacuation of the two cases to isolation centres.

He said: “State/LGA Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have commenced contact tracing, recording and monitoring.

“We also use this opportunity to ask for financial assistance to immediately carry out the necessary emergency response activities.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) last month declared Mycobacterium pox a global public health emergency following a rise in confirmed cases in Central Africa.

Nigeria has recorded more than 40 cases since last year.
