Speaking at the event, the coordinator of the Pind Faith Etukudo program has encouraged the committee of 25 members, which includes representatives of the credible community, young people, women and security agencies, to challenge national policies that cannot reach local communities.
He urged them to involve the interested parties involved in the abuse of drugs and other defects, supporting awareness and responsibility.
“We expect the committee to doubt why national policies and laws are not reaching communities and identify issues that need institutional policies or changes.
“They should influence activities such as drug abuse, map what has gone wrong and ensure that the guilty face a judicial proceeding.”
Representing the president of the local government of Yenagoa, Gesiye Oppareke, special councilor on political issues, he praised the leaders of the community and the parties interested for their commitment for peaceful coexistence.
He observed that while the construction of peace is not new, supporting peace remains a challenge.
The president of the Debewari Tarila Committee, also the secretary of Yenagoa LGA, underlined the need for intensified awareness at the level of community on the dangers of crime, in particular the abuse of drugs.
He asked for the collaboration between the interested parties and urged his parents to take their responsibilities seriously. “If we common our resources, we will have an impact. Continuous awareness and financial resources are essential to deal with the insecurity led by issues such as drug abuse,” said Tarila.
He stressed that the leaders and parents of the community must actively discourage social vices, including fraud on the Internet, which some parents inadvertently allow.
The female leader of the community of Nedugo agbia, Mrs. Seiyefa Otuogha underlined the importance of the guidance of persistent parents.
“Parents must never give up their children. Follow them and do what is necessary, because losing a child is a great loss,” he said.
The Committee plans to extend its efforts to the communities of Yenagoa, with the aim of reducing insecurity through prolonged awareness and collective action.
