The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed the Deputy Chairperson of the National (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as Acting National Chair after a sudden resignation from Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State and until now the National Chairperson of APC, submitted his resignation on Thursday, quoting the need to overcome “urgent and important personal problems.”
According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the National Publication of the Party, Felix Morka, Ganduje conveyed his decision in a formal letter addressed to the National Work Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
In the letter, Ganduje expressed his appreciation to Bola President Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with party leadership.
“His resignation, which was immediately effective, was offered to enable him to take care of urgent and important personal problems,” Morka stressed.

After the development, President Tinubu reportedly directed the Dalori to step as the Acting Chairperson, while waiting for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which would officially ratify permanent replacement.
The term of office of Ganduje as chairman of APC began in August 2023, replacing Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central Zone. However, his appointment attracted internal criticism for allegedly violating the regulation of APC zoning, because he and his predecessor came from the northern part of the country.
Apart from political headwinds, Ganduje remains the main ally of the president. In January 2025, he was appointed as Chairman of the Federal Nigerian Airport Authority Council (FAAN), and there is an indication he may soon be nominated as a non-Carrot Ambassador.
Dalori, who is now in control of acting capacity, is expected to direct the party through a critical period because it wrestles with internal structuring and preparing a key decision at the next NEC meeting.
