Damagum breaks the silence on the Wike ties, denies working for APC

The national president of the acting of the Democratic Party of people (PDP), Urar Damagum, defended his relationship with the Minister of the Territory of the Federal capital, Nyesom Wike, between the growing internal criticism, firmly rejecting the accusations of incompetence and collusion with the sentence of all the progressives of the congress (APC).

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Friday, Damagum rejected the statements that suggest that he acts in the interest of the APC or acting as a political prosecutor.

“God may be the judge between me and anyone who slandered me, and he can judge us, if I am working on the APC,” he said, responding to the speculations that he had a secret encounter with President Bola Tinubu in England.

The president of the PDP reiterated his long -standing loyalty to the opposition party, observing that he has remained a member committed since 1999 and has never deserted.

Among a growing discomfort within the party for his perceived proximity to Wike – an influential figure who now serves under the government of the APC – Damagum has admitted to knowing the minister but rejected the narrative that the report undermines the credibility of the PDP.

“For all those who accuse me of having ties with the Minister of FCT, I know him or have had connections with him, and many of them have had connections with him. My only defect here is that I did not allow them to do what they wanted with him,” he said.

Damagum has also dealt with the recent defection of some members of the PDP at the APC, describing the losses as supported but refuted according to which those who left were put aside or mistreated under his leadership.

On the internal switch within the PDP, Damagum recognized the presence of disagreements, but has claimed that these differences are a normal part of political life and do not report disunity.

“There will always be disagreements in every political context, but we remain a family in the PDP,” he said.
