Dangote’s refinery has accused the petroleum and the natural gas senior staff association of Nigeria (Pengassan) of having sought to deny access to the Nigerians with petrol, diesel and cooking gas.
This is how the union ordered that its branches in the main oil and gas companies are closed.
The branches include Totellegies, Chevron, Seplat, Shell Nigeria Gas, Ondo, Renaissance and The Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company.
In a statement on Saturday, the company said: “Apart from the illegality and crime inherent in the instructions of the Pengassan at its branches, the association’s directive is equivalent to economic sabotage on several levels. In a simple language, Pengassan has ordered its branches to interrupt and stop the supply of oil products from the refinery to the Nigerians.
“The products that would be interrupted and stopped include but do not limit themselves to fuel for aviation, petrol, kennel, diesel and cooking gases – all the products that are used and requested by all the stripes of Nigerians and people who live in Nigeria, both high and powerful or ordinary.
“Absolutely no law gives Pengassan the right to direct his branches to” cut “the supplies of gas and crude oil to the refinery of dance or at all. There is not even a law in our statutes that would support or would allow the Pengassan branches that must cut gases and the raw oil supplies to the refinery of dance or not at all.
“In addition, it constitutes a criminal conduct for Pengassan or its members to stop and/or interfere in any way with the contract between the refinery of dance and its various sellers for the supply of gas and oil to the raw to the refineries. Interferere with the performance of those contracts …
“Perhaps, in Pengassan it must be remembered that Nigeria is a country governed by the laws. Our laws do not exploit the self-help and the action of the crowd that could introduce chaos and chaos and easily translate into anarchy.
“It is instructive that as soon as the association has issued a press release of how abandoned the path of lawfulness and embraced the criminal conduct and the path that leads to chaos and anarchy by issuing the above directive.
Dangote’s refinery warned that the directive was the economic sabotage against the Nigerians and the state, asking for which interest and on behalf of which Pengassan “directs and intends to inflict these anarchist and criminal interruptions to the Nigerian society and to the people who live in Nigeria”.
The declaration added: “This is also an economic sabotage against the Nigerian state at several levels. Dangote’s refinery is the only refinery of its type in Africa and normally it should be the pride of all the Nigerians and the government of Nigeria. Usually it should have a special protection and status and in fact qualifies as a strategic national activity.
“An irreparable injury to the refinery of Dangote as Pengassan has directed constitutes a national embarrassment for all of us. The directive is a disincentive for external investors who would normally have been encouraged by the success of the refinery of dance to contemplate investments in Nigeria or in general.”
Pengassan in a statement later on Saturday in the follow-up to his directive also asked the members who worked through the field offices to withdraw the services in force from 06: 00 hours on Sunday 28 September 2025 and the 24-hour prayers begin while the strike fully began the following day.
The declaration said: “All members of Pengassan in all offices, companies, institutions and agencies should withdraw all services starting from 00:01 on Monday 29 September 2025.
“No intervention will be entertained in all offices on the field, except in which the safety of staff and activities is at risk; this authorization must be obtained by the national secretariat.
“All the processes involving gas and raw supply to the dance refinery should be left effectively immediately.
“All the branches of the IOC must increase the production of gas and provide to the refinery of dance and petrochemicals.
“The prayer point should include a call to omnipotent God to give courage to those who have authorities to curb dance and its co-ITVERS on the need to obey the laws of our country. No man is greater than our country, an injury to one is an injury to everyone.”
