A 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, has been detained for 60 days at the Ibara Correctional Center in Abeokuta over the alleged illegal abortion that led to the death of 23-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
Adesanya was arraigned on Thursday at the Isabo Magistrates Court, Abeokuta, facing four charges, including conspiracy, supplying drugs for an illegal abortion and murder.
Police lawyer, Solomon Babalola, told the court that the alleged offenses occurred between January and March 2026 in the Ikereku area of Laderin, Abeokuta, and that the drugs supplied by Adesanya allegedly led to Ariyo’s death.
The charge sheet read in part:
Count I: Conspiracy to commit an offense (abortion), contrary to Section 516 of the Ogun State Penal Code Laws, 2006.
Second count: Illegal attempt to procure abortion by supplying drugs to Ariyo Victoria Olapeju, contrary to section 230 of the Penal Code. [The Punch]
