Dein Reads Riot Act to Drug Dealers to Leave Agbor Kingdom, Seeks Partnership with NDLEA

The frontline traditional ruler of Delta State, Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchuku Gbenoba, has met with the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), to seek a partnership to put an end to the activities of drug peddlers in his kingdom.

Marwa, while welcoming the monarch to her office, expressed the agency’s readiness to work with all stakeholders, including traditional rulers and community guardians, to ensure that the scourge of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking is eradicated from communities across the country.

He said: “We are currently deploying our personnel in local government areas to establish our presence at the grassroots to advance our anti-substance abuse advocacy and enforce the law against those trafficking in illicit drugs at that level. To this end, we met with ALGON leadership last week to make this process seamless and we welcome the support and partnership with all stakeholders for the successful implementation of all our efforts to reduce drug supply and demand through a whole-of-society approach.”

In his address to the meeting, the monarch said, “We have had some problems with drug dealers in Agbor. We have tried to deal with them once or twice, but we would like to at least be able to provide some land for the NDLEA to come to Agbor. My main hope is General Marwa right here. Everything he touches turns to gold. Since he came on board the NDLEA, you people have been invigorated. And I have seen that since he came on board, the drug dealers are now more hesitant, and we need more of them. So, let’s continue to learn from his experience and continue to make sure that this agency is strengthened as much as possible.”

He said his desire to introduce the NDLEA in his kingdom was to eliminate the activities of drug dealers and protect his people from the devastating effects of illicit substances that are destroying the lives of youths and adults across the world.

He said his partnership with the NDLEA was intended to send a strong message to drug dealers that their time in his reign was up.

He added: “I always try to tell criminals that life is left and right, good and bad, up and down. If you are smart enough to sell drugs, then you deserve to go to prison. You deserve to be incarcerated because that intelligence can also lead you to sell houses or assets. Do something that does not affect people negatively. Because every drug dealer does not want his children to take these hard drugs. But he does not care that the neighbor next door takes these drugs. He is destroying us as a nation.

“The kidnappers are now using these illicit drugs to carry out their nefarious activities. The reduction of these drugs in our society will reduce the crime rate, robberies and so on.
So, my message to the drug dealers is: be careful, you have been warned; we don’t want you in Agbor; we don’t want you in our country.”

The monarch also addressed words of caution to those who abuse illicit drugs.

He advised that: “For those who take drugs, once you take them, it’s a life and death decision you’re making. You can take them for the first time and you can die. You destroy your family and you destroy the people around you. So, as much as possible, choose life over death with these drugs.”
