Ovation Magazine Publisher Dele Momodu on Thursday warned President Bola Tinubu to be wary of hero worshippers in the National Assembly.
He also asked the president to consider former Senate President Ali Ndum as his friend.
The Senate on Wednesday removed the outspoken lawmaker as Chief Whip following the recommendation of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He has since been replaced by Senator representing Borno North, Mohammed Monguno, in the position.
Ndume was fired days after he criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style.
The lawmaker, who appeared on a programme on Arise TV, said the president had been locked up by his aides in Aso Rock.
He added that Tinubu is unaware of the challenges facing Nigerians because he is far removed from the current reality in the country.
The lawmaker also argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari was a more accessible leader.
In an open letter to the president, the strategic communications director of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council for the 2023 elections called for efficient management of scarce resources as “the country’s economy has collapsed.”
He wrote: “For God’s sake, beware of the hero worshippers in the National Assembly who have turned you into God. Ndume is your friend. Listen to him. There is danger ahead.
“You must enforce discipline as a leader. Your new protégé, Nyesom Wike, has openly disrespected you on the Fubara issue. You must sanction him before he throws Nigeria into chaos.
“Nigeria is in deep trouble. Our economy is on the verge of collapse. And what is the way out? You have thrown too much money at a time when total austerity is needed.
“Please stop this reckless tendency to waste scarce resources. Buying presidential jets, building strange monuments, handing out cash as compensation, etc. are signs of a failed and reckless government.
“If you can rein in excessive government spending, you will free up a lot of resources for serious development.
“Invest in vocational skills for our highly talented youth who can demonstrate their capacity for hard work.
“Invest heavily in local agriculture. Improve our educational institutions. Giving politicians cash to hand out is unhealthy and unhelpful… That is the height of ignorance.”
