The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Owo, Revd Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi [FICT, FAT] has appointed Sir Dipo Okpeseyi SAN, OFR, as the new Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Owo.
Okpeseyi succeeds the late Chancellor of the Diocese and former Governor of Ondo State, Arankunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The Bishop said that Sir Dipo Okpeseyi SAN, OFR was a loyal and committed deputy to his predecessor.
He said Okpeseyi had played an effective leadership role towards members of the chancellery when the late chancellor was engaged in state affairs as governor.
The bishop praised his passion, confidence and competence in carrying out his duties.
Okpeseyi is also said to have successfully hosted the Synod of Owo Diocese.
CONCLAVE reports that Okpeseyi’s personal support and assistance to his bishop and the Anglican Communion is considered exceptional.
He reportedly [Okpessyi] is initiating a church project in Ago OGUNLEYE and has already pledged the princely sum of N10 million.
The bishop also appointed a diocesan evangelist, Rev. Moses Adeola, who will work closely with the Diocesan Directorate of Mission and Evangelization.
Also, the promotion of Reverend Omoleyinju and Reverend Jeremiah Ozor to Canons in St Andrews Cathedral Church Imola Owo on Friday, July 19, 2024, brightened the synod as the delegates appreciated His Lordship’s magnanimity and display of love towards his priests.
Among the highlights of this year’s Synod were the appointment of Okpeseyi as Chancellor, Adeola as Diocesan Evangelist and Rev. Omoleyinju and Rev. Jeremiah as Canons.
The synod was hosted by Prince Olatunbosun Aganun, a lawyer. He took the opportunity of his 50th birthday to host the synod.
An article on the Ipele Media blog described the 2024 Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Owo as epochal.
Synod is an annual event at which diocesan officials, appointed bishops, cathedral delegates, and all parishes of the Anglican Communion come together and make a collective decision on how to move the diocese forward and how to prepare Church leaders for the new year.
In the past, the Synod has been hosted by churches, but in 2015, things took a different turn when Senator Bode Olajumoke changed the narrative of the diocese by hosting the 2015 Synod himself.
Subsequently, several people have taken this bold step of faith, having a significant impact on the life of the diocese.
Prince Olatubosun Aganun, Esq., and his wife took turns hosting the third session of the 14th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Owo this year at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ipele, between July 18 and 21, 2024.
The welcoming service conducted by His Lordship, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi [FICT, FAT]the Bishop of Owo Diocese, bishops, several priests and dignitaries from all walks of life were present.
The Reverend Dr. Emmanuel Onsachi, Bishop of Okenne Diocese, preached at the opening service on the theme, “Walking in the Light of His Word: A Prescription for Spiritual Growth.”

The welcoming rite included the reception of Holy Communion.
At the official inauguration on July 19, 2024, Prince Olatunbosun Aganun donated N10 million to the Anglican Diocese of Owo, strengthening the pace of development of the Synod.
Prince Olatunbosun Aganun, filled with joy, gave all glory to Almighty God for granting him the privilege of hosting the synod of the year and celebrating his 50th birthday in grand style by hosting friends, family and delegates to the synod.
The official opening was immediately followed by a warm welcome.
He appreciated the support offered by friends and family, both in money and in kind, for the success of the synod.
His church, St. Stephens Anglican Church, also supported him in organizing the event with a donation of 4 million naira to the diocese.
Present at the official inauguration were the royal fathers led by Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty Oba AJIBADE GBADEGESHIN OGUNOYE III, Olupenmen of Upenmen Oba Ebenezer Adewunmi Ogunmolasuyi II, Olukaro of Ikare Oba Joshua Asunbo Olupele elect Oba Olusola Samuel Daramola and the representative of Ojomo Luda. by Ijebu-Owo Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo Ojomo Aruliwo III.
The synod held its thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olayide Adelami mni.
The deputy governor charged Christians to continue walking in the light of God so that they can illuminate the world from darkness.
He congratulated the bishop and the guest on the success of the synod.
Preacher and son of the soil, Venerable Dr. Olumuyiwa Adeleke, a native of Ipele, and the Dean of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church, Oke-Aluko, Ondo, have urged Christians to be proactive and not live in fear of the challenges facing the nation.
He said that as Christians, we should not attribute bad intentions to ourselves, but rather take advantage of the challenges the country is facing.
The Thanksgiving ceremony concluded with a surprising promotion by His Lordship, the Most Reverend Dr. Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi, who announced the Most Reverend Canon Seth Akinro as Archdeacon in Owo Diocese.
The church celebrated and thanked God for using His Lordship in the ministry of Rev. Canon Seth Akinro, who is a diligent, calm and quiet Rev. Father in the vineyard of God.
Akinro is said to have performed his duty with care, great skill and diligence.
He is said to have been a compassionate man of God with a markedly godly character.
Coincidentally, the next guest is also a silk man. Barrister Abiola Osho and his brothers will host the 2025 Synod at St. John’s Church, Iyere.
The exchange of witnesses took place in the presence of OBA OMOTUNDE ALABA EBIYANMI ADAKO IRESIN II, OLIYERE OF THE IYERE KINGDOM, and their readiness is at its maximum.
The 2024 Synod host, Prince Olatunbosun Aganun Esq., appreciated the love of his father and encourager, Oba Victor Oluwasegun Aganun Iredokun I, for the impact he had on his life, and his political leader, the late Governor of Ondo State, Arankunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who served under his administration as Senior Special Adviser on Community Development.
Appreciating all that she had done for him while he was alive, he prayed that their souls would continue to find peace.
Prince Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq. was born into the humble family of Oba Victor Olusegun Aganun of Ilana Quarters, Ipele and Iyaafin Florence Banke Aganun nee Adekunle-Obanigba of Ijebu-Owo.
He briefly attended Imade College, Owo, for about a week, before continuing his studies at St. Johns & Mary’s Unity Secondary School, Owo, between 1985 and 1991.
He later traveled abroad and obtained a certificate of study in Public Administration and later returned to the country to study law as a pioneer student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko between 2000 and 2006.
He obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Nigeria in 2013 and later obtained an LLM from Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
Arakunrin Dr. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, former Governor of Ondo State, appointed Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq., as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Community Development on May 13, 2020 and he served meritoriously in that capacity for about three years.
Subsequently, on November 3, 2023, before the demise of the late governor, he was appointed as the pioneer chairman of the interim committee of the recently dissolved Owo East Local Council Development Area of Ondo State.
Earlier, on August 2, 2019, Barrister Olatunbosun Aganun was appointed as a member of the Committee of Inquiry into the Araromi Obu-Ikale (Ago Alaye) Land Dispute Crisis.
He served with distinction on the committee and his contribution greatly facilitated the restoration of peace in the crisis area of Ondo State’s Southern Senatorial District.
Olatunbosun Aganun was baptized by Rev. EB Dahunsi (later Bishop of Idoani Diocese), and his confirmation was performed by the pioneer Bishop of Owo Diocese, the late Rev. Awosan, at St. John Mary’s Unity Secondary Chapel in 1988.
He is a member of the Lovers 0ⁿCircle Christian Society and the PCC of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ipele.
He was initially appointed Assistant Chancellor and later Vice Chancellor of Owo Diocese by the Anglican Bishop of Owo, the Most Reverend Dr Stephen Ayodeji Fagbemi.
Olatunbosun Aganun is a member of Owo Recreation Club, Owo and several other social clubs.
He belongs to some professional bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association, where he was a member of the National Executive Committee, the highest decision-making body of the NBA at the national level, and is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Christian Lawyers, the International Bar Association and the African Bar Association.
Atty. Olatunbosun Aganun is a faithful member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Owo Branch and has served the Bar Association at the local level in various capacities including Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Vice President and President.
Under his presidency, in 2021, on the occasion of the 65th birthday of the late governor, Arakunrin Dr. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, donated a giant bar complex to the NBA-Owo branch.
Olatunbosun Aganun has participated in numerous national and international conferences in Nigeria, South Africa and the United States of America.
The current Vice Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Owo is a community leader. He was installed as Asiwaju of Ipele Kingdom in 2011 by the late Oba Abel Alade II.
He became a prince of Ipele Kingdom when Governor Akeredolu crowned his father, Oba Victor Olusegun Aganun, Iredokun I, as the Olupele Pioneer First Class of Ipele in August 2022.
Olatunbosun Aganun is the Chairman of the Transition Committee of Owo East LCDA. He was recently appointed by His Excellency Honourable Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa.
Olatunbosun is happily married to his beautiful and priceless jewel, Oluwafunmilayo Omotayo Aganun, nee Balogun, and the union is blessed with the birth of God-fearing children.
