Disclaims Afenifere calls for the suspension of Akume

Senator George Akume, SGF

The socio-political group of Pan Yoruba, Afenifere, declared a group that claimed to be its faction, asking for the suspension of the secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, from the office.

This was contained in a declaration signed by Mr. Abagun Omololu, the organizational secretary of Afenifere, and made available to the Nigerian press agency (NAN) Thursday in Abuja.

Omololu described the declaration, which according to him was falsely attributed to Afenifere, as a naughty and unauthorized communication and categorically repudiated it.

According to him, “Afenifere has no factions”, observing that there was only an Afenifera, “which is under the guidance of PA Reuben Fasoranti”.

He said that the authentic leadership of Afenifere has never authorized any of his officers, serving or withdrawn, to issue what he called a prejudicial, defamatory or politically motivated declaration.

“The public is advised to ignore the fraudulent people who hide under the name of Afenifere to pursue personal or partisan programs.

“We are fully aware of the fact that some members of the Labor Party in the land of Yoruba continued to mask themselves as he spoke for Afineifera.

“These political opportunists, whose actions are guided by amarezza and selfish ambition, are with the present, severely warned to desist from dragging the revered name of Afeniferi in the absence of lack,” he said.

Omololu also stated that the declaration, which attempted to connect the SGF to an EFCC investigation involving a private individual, was not only dishonest but a deliberate act of blackmail.

He said it was publicly known that the aforementioned investigation was started on the strength of a complaint by Senator Akume himself, observing some irregularities.

The head of the Afenifera stated that the attempt of the unanswered group of distorting the facts available in an accusation of complicity was irresponsible, harmful and embarrassing for the Yoruba nation.

“We wish to reiterate that Afenifere is firmly on the side of the right trial, justice and the rule of law.

“The commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC) should be authorized to conduct its investigations without pressure, coercion or threats of orchestrated protests.

“Afenifere, as a non-partisan socio-political organ and in principle, will not be used as a vehicle for any political revenge,” he also said.

Omololu stressed that Afenifere would continue to defend the integrity of his name, the unity of Nigeria and the dignity of Yoruba’s leadership.

Nan reports that an Andrew Uchi, initially designed to be an SGF helper, was arrested by the commission for economic and financial crimes in March for the alleged corruption of Naira and the recycling of money.

Uchi was accused of having acquired properties in Abuja; Jos, Plateau State; Makurdi, Gboko and area of the local Tarka government in Benue.

In addition, two operators from the Bureau de Change are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the money recycling system connected to him.

However, the SGF office had been taken since then from Uchi, saying that it was never an Akume helper.

The office urged the public not to speculate or draw conclusions since the investigations were still in progress, adding that he appreciated the understanding and support of the public on the matter.

“It is essential to categorically affirm that the leadership of the office is in no way involved in the alleged bad conduct.

“He has always maintained a strong commitment to transparency, responsibility and integrity.

“We recognize the efforts of the FCC to ensure that those found guilty are held responsible,” he said in a note.

Despite the clarifications, the unknown “faction” of Afenifera invited President Bola Tinubu to suspend Akume to mitigate his undue influence in the investigation.

The group gave EFCC a 7 -day ultimatum to update the public on the state of investigations or risk a massive protest at national level, somehow describing it as a partisan political interest for the matter.

Reacting to development, a coalition of civil society organizations described the attempt to connect Akume to the alleged fraud by any means as prejudicial, without evidence and guided by harmful political reasons.

“To avoid the doubt, the accused, Mr. Uchi, is not an in charge of Mr. President, or on the SGF payroll, nor does he work in the SGF office, or is related to the SGF, as well as being an appropriate appraefinites around, which specializes in a drop in name, against the statements in their declaration.

“It is also known and noteworthy that the investigation conducted by the EFCC is to the request of his excellence, Sen George Akume, after noticing the extravagant lifestyle of Mr. Uchi, and has since publicly moved away from suspicion.

“The surreptitious coercive attempt by the so -called faction group to manipulate the discoveries of the FCC or incite public opinion to launch closure on the character and on the person of the SGF with the intent to influence the CSO, the CSO is a direct deal.

The coalition added that it has not supported or encouraged any act of corruption from any neighborhood, but would have resisted any attempt to slander or spread the leaders of the nation with a non -professional conduct. (Nan)
