Do not allow the shepherds to interfere in your wedding, Merry Lawal tells women

The founder of the young Queen Innovation, Nigeria, Merry Lawal, warned women not to allow shepherds to interfere in their weddings, warning that this interference often derives from incorrect interpretations of biblical scriptures.

Speaking in Abokuta, the lawyer of gender justice and the promoter of the Empowerment of young people have said that many shepherds have continued to mislead women by presenting submission as a divine commandment rather than a cultural consequence.

“Genesis 3:16 clarifies that sending is a punishment, not a commandment,” said Lawal. “He says:” To the woman he said, I will significantly multiply your pain and conception … and your desire will be towards your husband, and he will govern you about you. “This was a consequence, not an education.”

Lawal, known for his work in transformative education and defense, argued that submission in marriage should not be described as a unilateral obligation.

According to her, marriage should be rooted in mutual respect, love and understanding – values that are often obscured when religious leaders impose rigid interpretations of the Scriptures.

“Unfortunately, these misleading doctrines are often strengthened by shepherds who say things like” a woman who refuses to submit to her husband is to disobey God “or that” submission is an order of God “. These are tufts that must be challenged,” he said.

Lawal urged women to take ownership of their marriages and resist external religious pressures that undermine their autonomy.

“No man – whether he is a shepherd or other – has the right to interfere in marital matters. Marriage requires mutual dependence,” he added.

He has reaffirmed his commitment to enhance women and girls through initiatives that challenge social norms and favor leadership.

“We have to commit ourselves critically with tradition, culture and faith in a way that allows women to find their voice and model their destiny,” he concluded.
