An important leader of the community and the Stalwart of the Democratic Party (PDP), the leader Toyin Amuzu, launched the alarm for the marked extortion of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Cavalieri di Okada, in the area of the local government of the southern Abbute of the State of Ogun.
The chief Amuzu, a well -known social critic and former candidate of the Chamber of Representatives for Abeokuta South, condemned what described as a systematic exploitation of the Nigerians in difficulty by people presumably authorized by the local government.
He said that extortion not only reflects a lack of empathy, but also worsens the economic burden for residents already struggling with difficulty.
“This is deeply disturbing and must be studied thoroughly,” said Amuzu, reacting to the reports that an individual identified as Betterlife, together with others who presumably acts on behalf of the local government, has collected withdrawals ranging from ₦ 7000 to ₦ 15,000 from Okada operators under the role of documentation and liberation.
“There is no transparency, standardization or emission of official revenue to support these amounts.
It is obvious that things are difficult for our Okada operators and should not be overloaded with useless withdrawals and extortion, “he added.
Amuzu also warned by the risk of ethnic tension, underlining that the authorities must act quickly to prevent unrest.
“We must not allow the actions of some people to undermine the peace and harmony that we have worked so hard to build in our community”.
He invited the state commissioner of Ogun for transport and leadership of the local government of the south of Abeokuta to investigate the statements and end to those he described as illegal harassment and tolls that targeted the innocent knights.
“The local government must take responsibility for maintaining peace and order in our community. This includes the protection of our Okada operators from extortion,” he said.
While urges the motorcyclists to remain calm and continue their operations legally, Amuzu assured them that justice would be served.
He has also committed himself to continuing his social intervention program aimed at alleviating the suffering of the pilots.
“As part of our support, we will again activate our free fuel initiative to help relieve the burden for cyclists. We will not sit lazy while our people are exploited and oppressed,” he promised.
