Doctors with Kogi Govt shout for a poor remuneration – Thage

By Joseph Amedu, Lokoja

The doctors in the use of the State Civil Service of Kogi raised concerns about bad working conditions and the well -being of doctors in the state.

The doctors raised the concerns in a declaration on Thursday in Lokoja, under the associations: the Association of resident doctors (ARD) and the National Association of General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP).

The declaration was jointly signed by Dr. Olukoya Taiwo, president of Naggmdp; Dr. David Omeiza, President of Ard, Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH); And Dr. Aikoye Daniel – Ard President of Paauth.

The associations appreciated the governor Ahmed Ododo for his unshakable efforts in the repositioning of the health sector, in particular in the sectors of infrastructure and the health insurance regime that benefited the masses.

The associations, however, observed that the well -being of doctors must be a priority to obtain better health indicators.

“It is possible to obtain a good health indicators more robust if the well -being of its members is adequately cared for.

“This will translate into the state a destination for health tourism,” said the associations.

According to the associations, the doctors of the state of Kogi face different challenges, including the partial implementation of the 2024 coinage, the lack of cash support for previous promotions and no annual increase.

The associations stressed that, despite the approval of the white government of Conmess 2024 in November last year, the implementation of 100 % remains a mirage.

They denounced the absence of cashbacks of previous promotions for their members, leading to stagnant members with the same salary for over eight (8) years.

The groups also complained of a significant reduction in the number of doctors who actively practice due to a poor remuneration.

The associations urge the governor Ododo to intervene and face these problems, which they consider they will improve the well -being of doctors and attract more medical professionals in the state.

“We believe that the main servant of the state of Kogi, who is also a governor -oriented well -being, will pay the necessary attention to these protests,” said the associations.

The unions recognized that the State Health Insurance Regime of Kogi and other initiatives led to an influx of patients in hospitals.

The associations, however, observed that these programs will not produce optimal results without facing the challenges faced by the doctors.

The associations therefore appealed to the governor to examine the issues and face them promptly to improve the health sector in the state of Kogi.
