The House of Representatives on Tuesday ordered the immediate cancellation of the tariff hike for Band A customers in the country.
This follows the adoption of the report of the House of Representatives Committee on Power presented by its chairman, Victor Nwokolo, at a plenary session in Abuja.
In his presentation, Nwokolo told his colleagues that Nigerians could not afford the new tariffs.
The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in April announced a tariff hike for Band A customers.

Customers in the category enjoy at least 20 hours of electricity per day and will have to pay N225 per kilowatt under the new rules.
At the plenary session, the matter was referred to the Committee of the Whole for recommendations.
Parliament is expected to conduct further inquiries into the tariff hike in the coming days.
