DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State, on Thursday celebrated the institution’s 20th anniversary of academic operations by matriculating 2,400 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
As gathered during the ceremony, held at the Polytechnic Mass Communication Complex, 1,300 National Diploma, ND and 1,100 Higher National Diploma, HND, students were admitted into the schools of Engineering and Science, Management Science, Information and Communication Technology and Environmental Studies.
Describing the occasion as a milestone, the Rector, Prof. Adegoke Akeem Rauf, said the twentieth matriculation represents more than an academic rite.
In his words, this occasion marks not just another academic ritual, but a significant milestone in the life of our great institution, a celebration of two decades of academic excellence, resilience and transformative impact.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Prof Rauf urged them to embrace curiosity, discipline and determination to excel, warning that success at the polytechnic would require more than just intelligence.
He also tasked them to acquire practical and digital skills alongside their academic pursuits and build networks that support their future careers.
On discipline, the Rector was unequivocal, stressing that the institution maintained zero tolerance towards sectarianism, exam malpractice and hooliganism, warning that any conduct that threatens the peace and reputation of the polytechnic would not be condoned.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon, represented by Council Member Dr. Kayode Olunuga, congratulated the matriculated students urging them to shun social vices.
“Be ambassadors of excellence, not only within these walls but also in the communities that host you,” Olunuga quoted the prime minister as saying.
Ambassador Okanlawon, in his speech, therefore assured that the Governing Council in its second term will focus on modernizing infrastructure, enhancing academic programmes, improving staff welfare and strategic industry partnerships to position the Polytechnic as a major hub for innovation.
As a guest, Itori Divisional Police Officer, Dapo Ojekunle, who addressed the students, warned against belonging to secret cults, urging new students to remain law abiding inside and outside the school.
Ojekunle also warned them against spreading unverified information on social media and cyberbullying.
Also present was Mrs. Mary Aminat Duze, Director of Quality Assurance and Teacher Development in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, representing the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, at the event.
