“He (Lamorde) was appalled at the level of environmental degradation and deprivation suffered by many communities and believed that their plight should be highlighted and lasting solutions advocated for action, through a project he initiated after retiring from public office . “, the community said.

A member of the Ogbona School Board of Trustees and Executive Director of Inter-Atlas Synergy Ltd, an oil and gas project management and industrial safety company, Peter Dunia, who led Ogbona community leaders at the dedication ceremony, described the late Lamorde as “a people-centered person and problem solver who could be relied upon to help at any time, a loyal and unifying figure who maintained a wide network of good relationships with inclusion and diversity.”

Dunia said Lamorde: “As a man of deep religious convictions dedicated to the Muslim faith, he (Lamorde) was a committed family man who loved his family dearly and a supporter of communities.

“From the philanthropic activities he tirelessly sponsored in his native Mubi, Adamawa State, to the many other communities he worked in across the nation, ensuring safe and thriving community life was a priority for him.

“Sadly, he passed away on May 25, 2024. He left a legacy of service to God, humanity, community and country. The ultra-modern auditorium and sports complex at Ogbona Community Secondary School in Etsako Central LGA of Edo State is named in his honor and fond memory by Inter-Atlas Synergy Limited, the company he led after his retirement from public service until his passing.”

In a goodwill message, the Executive Director of NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kyari, acknowledged the synergy between the Ogbona community and Inter-Atlas Limited in facilitating development projects for the oil-bearing community, noting that “it is the result of a collaboration where stakeholders work together as a team.”

Kyari, represented on the occasion by a senior NNPCL official, Muhammed Adamu, said the project was a demonstration of what synergy could do and called for continued harmony between host communities and oil companies so that production could continue unhindered.

The NNNPCL boss also commended security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, NSCDC, as well as the Federal Government’s privately contracted pipeline surveillance company, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. (TSSNL), for a good job well done.

Also, the Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, Eng. Abubakar Momoh, represented by his Special Assistant on Project Monitoring, Eng. Okodugha Dauda, charged the people of the Niger Delta to emulate the Ogbona community by contributing to the development of their various communities.

According to the minister, “after having benefited the community, they should be able to give back to the community.”

He said the Ministry continued to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta region, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to continue maintaining peace and development in the region.

In an emotionally charged response on behalf of the Lamorde family, Dr. Suleiman Lamorde, brother of the late EFCC Chairman, commended the Ogbona community for “the extraordinary gesture” shown by the Niger Delta community towards their late benefactor . [The Punch]
