Edo notes three suspected cases of mpox

Edo State has recorded three suspected cases of mpox.

Director of Public Health, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, confirmed this to journalists on Tuesday in Benin City.

However, he said there were not a single confirmed positive cases.

Ojeifo said: “We have three suspected cases of mpox – two patients are at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and one is at Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.”

He explained that although the symptoms of mpox resemble those of other skin rashes, the ministry is still maintaining a high level of caution by isolating suspected cases of infection for proper treatment.

“We ensure that every suspected case is isolated, while we send samples to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja for testing.

“So, before the test results come out, we cannot say there is a case of mpox,” the director added.
