Edo::18 council chairmen, 192 councilors get certificates of return



The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) on Monday presented certificates of return to the 18 newly elected local government chairmen and 192 councillors.

He charged them to justify the trust reposed in them by the electorate through exemplary leadership and commitment to grassroots development.

‎Speaking during the ceremony in Benin City, EDSIEC President, Hon. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, congratulated the elected officials and urged them to uphold democratic principles, govern with integrity and put the welfare of the people before personal interests.

‎He also commended the Edo State Government, security agencies, political parties, election observers, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, media, election staff and residents of the state for their role in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.

“When you assume office, may your mandate be guided by wisdom, integrity and responsibility, with a genuine commitment to the development of your respective communities,” Aifuobhokhan said. Declares the presentation of the Return Certificates officially concluded.

‎Responding on behalf of the newly elected presidents, Oredo City Council President Gabriel Iduseri described the elections as free, fair and transparent.

‎He praised the EDSIEC for what he called an elaborate voter awareness campaign that contributed to the impressive voter turnout recorded during the poll.

‎Iduseri promised that council chairmen will align with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda and work to distribute the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
