EFCC arrests 13 suspected illegal miners in Abuja

In a major operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 13 individuals suspected of illegal mining activities in Asokoro area of ​​Abuja.

The arrests took place on Wednesday following a tip that led to the suspects being apprehended.

According to the EFCC, the suspects are said to be involved in the illegal transportation of large quantities of coal and kaolin.

The minerals were transported in five trucks from Nassarawa State to a site in Kaduna State.

The operation was based on credible information linking the suspects to these illicit activities.

“The EFCC received reliable intelligence about the illegal transportation of minerals. Acting on this intelligence, our operatives moved swiftly to intercept the suspects in Asokoro,” an EFCC official said.

The official added that the suspects are currently being questioned to uncover further details about their operations and affiliations.

“The EFCC is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that all individuals involved in this illegal mining network are brought to justice.

“Illegal mining is a persistent problem in Nigeria, contributing to environmental degradation and loss of revenue for the government,” the official said.
