EFCC grants a Tambuwal bail, hold back the passport

The commission for economic and financial crimes granted the deposit to the former governor of the state of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, after having questioned it for alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals for a total of n189 billion.

Tambuwal, who ruled the state of Sokoto from 2015 to 2023, was invited to the Feccc headquarters in Abuja on Monday, arriving around 11:30 am

He was interrogated by the investigators and subsequently held at the headquarters of the Commission.

According to EFCC sources, it was suspected that the withdrawals marked to the law on money laundering (prevention and prohibition), 2022.

“The former governor of the state of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, is detained for alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals on the sum of n189 billion. The withdrawals are in the flagrant violation of money recycling (prevention and prohibition) Act, 2022”, said a source on Monday.

Another FCC official, who asked not to be appointed, confirmed that Tambuwal was in custody while the investigations continued.

Tuesday, sources reported that the former governor had been released after meeting his bail conditions, which were described as “non -rigorous”.

However, his passport remains in the custody of the Fcc.

“He was released on administrative deposit. He met all the conditions of deposit. His passport is with us,” said a source.

The efforts to reach the Feccc spokesman, Delewale, were not successful since the calls to his line have not replied and has not yet responded to a message sent to him at the time of the press. [The Punch]
