The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on August 19, 2026, arraigned two persons, Gideon Bakpa Aghogho and Oscar Ebere Chukwuebuka before Justice FN Ogazi of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, for alleged unlawful provision of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) access credentials.
The defendants were charged along with Scott, who is currently a fugitive, on an eight-count indictment that borders on providing unlawful access credentials to a bank database.
The offense is contrary to Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024.
One of the charges reads: “That you, GIDEON BAKPA AGHOGHO, OSCAR EBERE CHUKWUEBUKA, together with a person identified as SCOTT (at fugitive), unlawfully conspired between the 24th and 26th of July 2026 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, by providing for the use of GIDEON BAKPA AGHOGHO access codes to FCMB systems using local Administrative Credentials (ITSD), which is capable of authorizing access to the FCMB Virtual Center Platform, with intent to commit an offence, and thereby you commit an offense contrary to Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024, and punishable under Section 28(2) of the same.”
Another count alleges that Aghogho, between April and May 2025 in Lagos, knowingly and without authority disclosed access credentials, including bank server IPs and domain credentials, to gain access to the FCMB database in exchange for $15,000.
The first defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the second defendant pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them.
Following the plea of the first defendant, the prosecutor, Bilkisu Buhari, asked the court to fix a date for the start of the trial and prayed that he be returned to the correctional facility.
In relation to the second defendant, the prosecutor attempted to review the facts of the case against him after his guilty plea.
Judge Ogazi then adjourned the case until August 27, 2026, to review the facts and other trial proceedings. The judge also ordered that the defendants be returned to the correctional facility.
