EFCC said that former IABIA commissioners were sought for alleged fraud

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has declared a former Commissioner for the Regional Government and the main problems in the state of Abia, Christopher Enweremadu, who was sought for alleged fraud.

The former commissioner was declared sought with one Fortune Ozoemela for a criminal conspiracy, transferring public funds, stealing, and money laundering.

The head of the EFCC media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, revealed this in a public notification posted on the commission website on Wednesday.

Enweremadu served as Commissioner during the administration of the former Governor of Okezie IKPeazu in the Southeast State.

Oyewale registered the final address of Enweremadu which was known as the Regional Government Ministry and the Affairs of the School Principal, Umuahia, the State of Abia.

He added that Ozoemela, 40, was the native of Abia and the last address known was 122 Ozoemela Complex, Amakama Orolokor, O Umuahia, the state of Abia.

The former commissioner was related to an investigation of the management of funds allocated for 17 local councils in the state of Abia.

The Federal Capital High Court in December 2024 ordered an investigation of the allocation to the local council between 2019 and 2023 and directed the EFCC to submit its findings.

The court also ordered the confiscation of International Passport owned by Enweremadu, Erondu Uchenna Erondu (former Assistant Governor of IKPEAZU), and Deaconess Joy Nwanju, permanent secretary at the local government ministry and tribal chief problems.

The court’s decision to follow the ex parte application submitted by an activist who accused the billions of naira intended for the local council Abia was diverted under the supervision of the officials.
